George Frederick Dick

Born July 21, 1881; died October 10, 1967 at the age of 86.

An American doctor and pathologist who, with his wife Gladys Henry Dick, isolated the hemolytic streptococcus that was the cause and developed an immunization to treat dangerous scarlet fever. They also developed Dick’s test, which determined sensitivity or immunity to burns by injecting measles toxin. They use Koch’s postulates to prove that scarlet fever is caused by streptococci, restores bacteria from all cases of the disease and infects other cultures with bacteria.
