• Charles Emmanuel Sédillot was a French surgeon who coined the word microbe for a microorganism.
• Among other surgical techniques he developed, he was the first to use a gastric fistula and created a thermgastrostomy for this operation.
• He has authored many publications, including the first book on anesthesia in France.
