Born July 25, 1884; died March 15, 1934 at the age of 49.

Canadian physician and physical anthropologist who first postulated the existence of a distinct form of primitive man, popularly known as Peking Man. In 1920 he took up a post at a college in Beijing, China, which enabled him to investigate nearby Chou K’ou-tien. Subsequently, more teeth, skulls, bones, tools and campfire remains were discovered.
