Antibodies for COVID 19 vaccine reduced by 57% after 6 months

  • Response to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in 787 healthcare workers aged 21–75 years who received two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in Verona, Italy was studied.
  • Researchers compared the SARS-CoV-2/COVID 19 antibody levels before their 1st vaccination, after their 2nd vaccination, and then 1, 3, and 6 months after the 2nd vaccination and found that the antibodies reduced by 57% after 6 months across age and sex.
  • Researchers also found that there were differences in the total antibody levels based on age and sex. Subjects under the age of 65 years had X 2 the number of antibodies compared with subjects who are 65 years or older over the 6 months following the 2nd vaccination. Females had a higher number of antibodies than males especially below the age of 65 years, most probably due to the effect of estrogen & X-Chromosome on the immune system.
  • The research contributes to debates about the necessity of booster vaccines for COVID-19 for everybody!
