Liquid biopsy

Liquid biopsy: A new hope for the fast detection of cancers

  • Liquid biopsy is a fast, sensitive & inexpensive method of detecting cancer markers by using a small sample of serum.
  • A number of gene mutations in the cancers enable them to equip themselves to survive in the host environment. One of those mutations is in the microRNAs that are exuded from cancer cells into the blood circulation therefore microRNAs are considered to be the cancer-biomarkers.
  • Photonic Resonator Absorption Microscopy (PRAM) has been developed to capture and count the specific microRNA molecules whose presence and concentration are correlated with the presence (Dx or screening) & aggressiveness (prognosis) of specific types of cancers.
  • PRAM results might help in the follow-up of the efficiency of the chemotherapy,  identifying the emergence of the drug resistance  & remission without using any other highly invasive & expensive modalities of the tests.
