Roy Lee Wolford, Jr. He was an American pathologist and gerontologist who pioneered and wrote books on restricting food intake to prolong life. He meticulously applied this concept with a diet limited to 1,600 calories per day, hoping to reach the age of 120. Research conducted at the University of California in the 1960s discovered that mice were fed a diet that limited their calorie intake by about 40 percent. almost doubled their life span. He is also known as one of eight people who have lived in Biosphere 2 since 1991, in an experiment to see if humans can live for two years in a closed, independent environment.
