• Austrian physician who founded the New Vienna School of Dermatology, which became the basis for modern dermatology.

• He wrote one of the most influential books on dermatology, Atlas der Hautkrankheiten

• Among the many skin diseases that he described and named were lupus, hemorrhoids, rubra and tinea pedis, and he was the first to describe dermatitis herpetiformes.
