Philip Showalter Hench

  • American physician who was one of the leaders in American rheumatology.
  • He shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1950 for discoveries relating to the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and biological effects (with Edward C. Kendall and Tadeus Reichstein of Switzerland).
  • In 1948, Hench was working at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
