  • American physician, co-founder of International Bone Marrow Registry, and a pioneer in bone marrow transplantation.
  • Gale has received much attention for the assistance he has given foreign governments in treating radiation victims – to the Soviet Union (1986) after the Chernobyl disaster and to Brazil (1987) following an accident in Goiania.
  • He operated with bone marrow transplants on 13 Chernobyl victims
